It was quiet on this side of west village. Barely any traffic on this particular late summer night. When we arrived at Carma, it was empty. We didn’t get to sit in the patio, as it was booked for a private party, but it would be an awesome place to hold one. It is a rather interesting setting, the bar is all the way inside, and the dining room is divided by a load-bearing wall. Dimmed lighting bouncing off the brick walls, it is warm and cozy.

upland What exactly is California inspired cuisine?? We have no idea. California is so big; there are different cuisines in each city, different produce, and different local flavors. So which California is Upland referring to?
Upland is a city in San Bernardino county in Southern California where Chef Justin Smille grew up. His 88 seats mid-town restaurant is backed by the famed restaurant mogul from Philly- Stephen Starr. Starr now has 6 restaurants in the city, all are highly popular, including the almost 2 years old child with Chef Justin Smille – Upland.

Thanks to all the food critics, Mimi is no longer a hidden secret in Noho. The pint size French bistro on Sullivan is jammed packed when we visited. The place hold only 10 tables with a bar that sits about 7, it is smaller than your average corner Starbucks. When I heard the chef is only 25 of age, I was utterly surprise. Because her resume is too impressive for a 25 years old. Already did a tour in Europe including the now closed but former world number 1 Noma, and also a stint in Japan. Chef Johnson really wasted no time and still got a full life ahead of her. What were we doing when we were 25???
